Privacy and safety

# A review contains private details or a threat. Handle it carefully.

We help you document the problem safely and find the platform’s reporting route for privacy or safety. Keep every phone number, address, patient detail or threat out of your public reply. If anyone is in immediate danger, contact local emergency services or the police. The platform makes the final decision.

## What to do first

### Save the evidence and limit who sees it

Take a screenshot first, because the reviewer can still edit the text. Black out personal details before you share it, tell the person concerned and keep only what you need.

### Check what the rules cover

Google prohibits threats, doxxing, hate speech and sharing personal details without consent. Trustpilot accepts flags for threats, hate speech and another person’s name, contact details or photos.

### Know where the rules stop

On Google, professionals who do business under their own name can be named. On Trustpilot, information already on your profile or website does not count, and neither do the reviewer’s own details.

### If you reply in public

Stay neutral and short. Invite the reviewer to contact you privately and keep every detail of the case out of the reply.

## Evidence worth collecting

- The direct link to the review
- A screenshot kept where only a few people can see it
- A redacted copy for sharing
- Who is affected and what was exposed
- A note of any police report, if one has been made

## What you can rely on

- Private details stay private: we keep them out of anything public, and we ask you to do the same.
- We work only with your records and the platform’s own tools, and we leave reviewers alone.
- A threat to someone’s safety goes to the police first, and we help with the documentation around it.
- We promise careful handling of what was exposed. Someone named in a professional role may not qualify, and we tell you early if so.

## Common questions

### Should I post the person’s information to prove the problem?

No. Sensitive details do not belong in a public reply. Share only what is necessary, through a secure channel.

### Can an employee be named in a review?

It depends. On Google, professionals who do business under their own name can be named. Trustpilot counts another person’s name as personal information unless it is already on your profile or website.

### How fast should I act?

Save the evidence straight away, because the text can still change, and then report it. A threat to safety goes to the police before anything else.
